EDUCATION

We don't always enjoy it, but we all need an education. Sometimes it's hard to choose the right course of study, or we feel we're struggling with the workload. Ask Dr. Mike for advice here.

QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ASKED

FURTHER EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
I hate school and don't like any of my subjects and can't wait to leave at 16, but my parents say I'll earn more money if I go to college. Is that right?

It is certainly right that you stand a far better chance of getting a well paid job if you have a qualification, whether that is from unviesity, a college or an NVQ. Most well paid jobs require a qualification. Having said that, you must be good at something (sport, music, etc) so why don't you find out what you are good at and then work hard at that subject to try and get a job in that area? Good luck!

LACK OF PLANS
I don't know what subjects to study at college but everyone else seems to have their whole life planned out ahead of them. Is there something wrong with me?

There is nothing wrong with you. Very few people of your age know what to study. Keep an open mind - you don't need to plan your life at your age. Concentrate on the subjects you are good at and enjoy, and then, if you still haven't decided what to do, go for some “work experience” in differenet places and if you get good enough grades to go to university or college, go and study something you are interested in and see where that takes you! If you really don't know what to do, get GCSEs and A levels and then take a year out, and do lots of different jobs. You will soon find out what you like doing!
